Who it is approved for

Adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition, for weight reduction and long-term maintenance — and adults with obesity and moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea.

Pens or vials?

Pens are simplest: a fixed dose with a hidden needle. Vials are drawn up with a syringe and are the main self-pay option on LillyDirect, where reported prices have been about $299 a month for 2.5 mg, $399 for 5 mg and $449 for higher doses. Ask your pharmacist to show you how to draw up a vial dose if you choose them.

The first three months

Weeks 1–4 at 2.5 mg are about getting used to the medicine. From 5 mg, appetite usually drops clearly. Your prescriber decides whether and when to go higher.

  • Eat smaller meals and stop as soon as you feel full — the medicine makes fullness arrive earlier.
  • Go easy on fatty, fried and very sweet foods in the days after a dose increase.
  • Sip water through the day; vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate you and strain the kidneys.
  • Tell your prescriber if nausea lasts — staying on a lower dose longer is a common fix.

Birth control and other medicines

Like Mounjaro, Zepbound can reduce how well birth-control pills work, especially for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase. Use a non-oral or added barrier method as your prescriber advises.

Keeping results

Weight tends to return after stopping. Think of Zepbound as long-term treatment and build habits — protein-forward meals, strength exercise, sleep — that support it.

⚠ Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
