Who it is for

It is approved for weight reduction and long-term maintenance in adults with obesity, or overweight with a weight-related condition. Approved by the FDA on December 22, 2025, it was the first oral GLP-1 for weight loss.

The fasting rule, made easy

Like Ozempic tablets, the pill needs an empty stomach to be absorbed. Take it on waking with a small glass of plain water, then wait 30 minutes. Keep it in the original container so moisture does not damage the tablets.

The 90-day ladder

  • Days 1–30: 1.5 mg daily.
  • Days 31–60: 4 mg.
  • Days 61–90: 9 mg.
  • Day 91 on: 25 mg maintenance.

The low early doses are about tolerance. Expect the strongest appetite effect once you reach 25 mg.

Side effects and safety

Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting and constipation are the most common, especially after each step. The pill carries the same thyroid C-cell boxed warning as injectable semaglutide.

  • Eat smaller meals and stop as soon as you feel full — the medicine makes fullness arrive earlier.
  • Go easy on fatty, fried and very sweet foods in the days after a dose increase.
  • Sip water through the day; vomiting or diarrhea can dehydrate you and strain the kidneys.
  • Tell your prescriber if nausea lasts — staying on a lower dose longer is a common fix.

Cost

NovoCare self-pay started at about $149 a month for starter doses and about $299 for higher doses. Promotions change, so check the current price before you fill.

⚠ Boxed warning: risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. Do not use if you or a family member has had medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).

Frequently asked questions

Pill or injection — which works better?

In trials the Wegovy pill's average weight loss was comparable to the 2.4 mg injection. The best choice depends on whether you prefer a daily routine or a weekly shot.

Can I take my other morning medicines with it?

Not at the same time. Wait at least 30 minutes after the Wegovy pill, then take other oral medicines.

How is it different from Foundayo?

Foundayo is a different, non-peptide molecule with no fasting rule. The Wegovy pill is semaglutide and needs the empty-stomach routine.
